Abstract

The development of the poverty in Binjai has been quite increasing from year to year during the last ten years. In 2019, the number and percentage of poor people was at the lowest level in the last ten years with a total of 15.61 thousand people and a percentage of 5.66 percent. When compared to all districts/cities in North Sumatra Province, in 2019 Binjai City was in the second rank of districts/cities with the lowest percentage of poor people out of 33 districts/cities. This indicates that the level of welfare of the Binjai residents is in a good category when compared to other districts/cities in North Sumatra Province. In terms of both the number and proportion of poor people indicators (P0), the poverty gap index (P1), and the poverty severity index (P2), in 2019 the three indicators show in line with a number at the lowest level in the last ten years. The level of population welfare is shown to be at the best level in the last 10 years when seen from the three indicators.
